ANDRITZ to supply main production technologies and equipment for a new pulp mill in Lao PDR

U.S. Containerboard Production Up 7.2% in December 2016
(Washington DC, USA, Jan. 17, 2016) The American Forest & Paper Association released its December 2016 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report, which said containerboard production was 7.2 percent higher compared to December 2015. The month-over-month average daily production compared to November 2016 was 0.6 percent higher.
The containerboard operating rate for December increased to 97 percent, while the year-to-date operating rate was 0.1 percent higher compared to year-to-date 2015. (Source: AF&PA)

Sonoco Implementing Price Increase for Paperboard Tubes and Cores
(USA, Jan. 13, 2017) Sonoco today announced it is implementing price increases for all paperboard tubes and cores in the United States and Canada by a minimum of 8 percent.

Caraustar Hikes Prices on its Paper Tube, Core and Protective Packaging

Pulp price hikes planned for European markets in January
(Gernsbach, Germany, 10 Jan 2017) Manufacturers of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) have informed their European customers of plans to raise their prices for NBSK pulp to $820/metr.t with effect from 1 January, EUWID reported this week.
As per EUWID, bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp are also trying to lift their prices on the market in Europe. In December, several manufacturers have announced a price hike for BEK pulp, effective 1 January.

Caraustar to Increase Price on All Uncoated Recycled Paperboard Grades
(USA, Jan. 10, 2017) Caraustar Industries announced a price increase of $60 per ton on all uncoated recycled paperboard grades. The increase will be effective starting with shipments on February 10, 2017.
Caraustar said the increase is in response to increased raw materials and other costs during 2016, including the various grades of recycled fiber used in producing uncoated recycled paperboard.

(New Delhi, India, January 12, 2017) Grappling with high cost of raw materials, the domestic paper industry today urged the government to immediately curb cheaper imports from ASEAN countries by imposing 10-15 per cent safeguard duty.
The industry also demanded that the government should impose 10 per cent special additional customs duty on overseas purchase of paper and paperboard.

Papyrus to acquire Procurator
(Stockholm, Sweden, Jan. 10, 2017) Papyrus AB has agreed to acquire 100% of the shares of Procurator AB from RoosGruppen AB.
The transaction, which is subject to approval by the Swedish Competition Authority, is expected to be completed in the coming months.
As a result of the transaction, RoosGruppen AB will become a shareholder in Papyrus together with private equity groups Altor Fund II and Triton Fund II. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
