Södra to increase price for NBSK pulp in Europe

Czech paper machine maker to acquire Italian producer
(Prague, March 07, 2017) Czech paper machine producer Papcel a.s. has unveiled plans to take over an unnamed Italian paper machine ma-nufacturer.
Company representatives say that in the coming years, Papcel is plan-ning to take over a number of Western European industry players to in-crease its production capacities and export sales. Last year, the com-pany posted revenues of some CZK 1.2 billion (€44.5 million), according to data obtained by local business daily Hospodarske Noviny.

Cascades reports 4Q sales of $979 million
(Canada, 7 March, 2017) Cascades Inc. 4Q 2016 sales of $979 million increased by $4 million compared to the same period last year. This reflects higher year-over-year sales volumes in Containerboard and Specialty Products, and a $13 million sales increase generated by recovery and recycling activities.
On an adjusted basis, 4Q 2016 operating income stood at $32 million compared to $47 million in 2015.

Ence posts a net profit of Euro 38.7 million in 2016
(Spain, 7 March, 2017) Ence – Energía y Celulosa - posted a net profit of Euro 38.7 million in 2016 (-22.4%). The adjusted EBITDA rose to Euro 42.2 million within the 4Q, with an increase of 29.1%, driven by increases of 26.5% and 35.6% in pulp and energy business, respectively. Polish paper maker to raise output capacity
(Poland, March 06, 2017) Polish paper producer Malta Decor Ltd has unveiled plans to hire 60 new employees at its plant in Bodzanów, in the country’s south-western region of Opolskie.
The move is related to the company’s plan to increase the facility’s output capacity. Under the plan, the plant in Bodzanów is to be fitted with another paper machine to make coated paper, according to the information obtained by local daily Nowa Trybuna Opolska.

Huhtamaki invests in new paper cup manufacturing unit in Kiev

Total U.S. printing-writing paper shipments decreased 5% in January; boxboard production dipped slightly in January 2017
(Washington, USA, Feb. 28, 2017) The American Forest & Paper Association has released its January 2017 U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Report which said total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 5% in January compared to January 2016. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels were flat from December 2016.
Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments decreased 3% year-over-year in January. UFS imports increased 16% in December compared to December 2015, but finished the year 14% below 2015, with exports decreasing 11% for the year.

Nippon Paper Industries agrees to sell Port Angeles Paper mill to Bio-Pappel
(USA, March 2, 2017) Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. today announced the sale of the Port Angeles, Washington paper mill and cogeneration assets, which are owned and operated by Nippon Paper Industries USA Co., Ltd. to McKinley Paper Company.
McKinley is the US subsidiary of Bio-Pappel, a leading producer of paper and paper products in Mexico.
