Klabin Reports Fourth Quarter, Full 2016 Results
(Sao Paulo, Brazil, Feb. 02, 2017) Klabin reported consecutive growth in its results for the fourth quarter of 2016 and for the fiscal year. The company posted adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) of R$653 million in the fourth quarter of 2016, up 8% from same quarter of 2015. In 2016, EBITDA amounted to R$2,287 million, growing 16% compared to 2015.
Total sales volume (excluding wood) was 777,000 tons in the last quarter of 2016, up 56% from the year-ago period; and 2,650,000 tons in 2016, increasing 45% from 2015. Net sales revenue (including wood) in the fourth quarter of 2016 reached R$1,964 million, 23% higher than in the prior-year quarter.
Pulp production at the Puma Unit in the fourth quarter amounted to 308,000 tons, while sales volume in the period was 301,000 tons, of which 208,000 was hardwood pulp and the remainder softwood pulp, which generated total sales revenue of R$471 million. Pulp export volume impacted total export volume, which accounted for 54% of total sales volume in the fourth quarter of 2016, up from 38% in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Investments
Klabin invested R$511 million in 4Q15, of which R$172 million was allocated to the new pulp mill in Ortigueira, Paraná, R$45 million to the forestry operations, R$109 million to sustaining industrial operations, and R$185 million to special and expansion projects, which include the expansion in the capacity to produce corrugated board packaging resulting from the acquisition of the Manaus and Rio Negro units.
