Global Dissolving Pulp (DP) Market Nov. 2016 review – “DP prices drop in November; Import of DWP to China still down by 5% first ten months of 2016”
Dissolving Pulp (DP) Market Summary:
• We have all been waiting for the drop in dissolving pulp (DP) prices as Viscose Staple Fiber (VSF) prices have fallen by 12-13% the last month, and end of November/beginning of December we saw prices decreased by 7-8% to USD 930-920. We hope the price drop has stopped as VSF prices have stabilized the last few weeks.
• Price for softwood (SW) decreased to USD 970 –1.000.
• Import of dissolving pulp decreased by 5% the first 10 months of 2016 where South Africa, Czech, Sweden and Canada has reduced their export by 225.000 tonnes while Brazil and Indonesia have increased their export to China by 115.000 tonnes.
I. VSF prices are now below cotton prices*
*VSF: Viscose Staple Fiber / **The price for domestic cotton in China type 328 have a higher price then “A-index” because of Chinese government’s protection /***The price for dissolving pulp only include wood based dissolving pulp
II. The price for CLP & DWP have turned sharply down in November
*CLP: Cotton Linters Pulp; DWP: Dissolving Wood Pulp / **The price for dissolving pulp only include wood based dissolving pulp / ***VAT 17 % has been excluded for cotton linter staple grade pulp
III. Import of DWP to China was unchanged in October compared with October last year, and is still down by 5% first 10 months of 2016
