Stora Enso to shut down one SC paper machine at Kvarnsveden mill in Sweden
(Stockholm, Sweden, Feb. 16, 2017) Stora Enso today announced that it will start co-determination negotiations with employees at its Kvarnsveden Mill in Sweden regarding a plan to reorganise the mill, including a permanent closure of paper machine (PM) 8.

Resolute FY 2016 sales drop 3 per cent year-over-year
(Montreal, Canada, Feb. 14, 2017) Resolute Forest Products Inc. reported a net loss for the quarter ended December 31, 2016, of $45 million, compared to a GAAP net loss of $214 million in the same period in 2015. Sales were $889 million in the 4Q 2016, essentially unchanged from the 4Q 2015.

Södra to Increase Market Price for Softwood Pulp in Europe
(Sweden, Feb. 10, 2017) Södra announced that it will increase its market price for NBSK (Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft) in Europe to US$840 per tonne, for all new business.
“Current market conditions are very favorable and demand is solid. We closed January business with prices on the rise amid consensus from our customers,” said Magnus Björkman, VP Sales and Marketing, Södra Cell.

Avery Dennison to acquire Yongle Tape Company Ltd.

Norske Skog reports 4Q net loss of NOK 124 million
(Norway, Feb. 09, 2017) Norske Skog’s gross operating earnings (GOE) was NOK 1 049 million ($126 million) in 2016. A high capacity utilisation and good operating performance throughout 2016 resulted in the best annual gross operating earnings since 2012.
