Global Pulpwood Prices Rose in Q2, After 7 Consecutive Decreases
(Seattle, WA, USA, October 11, 2016) The wood fiber costs for the world’s pulp industry had trended downward for almost five years until this year when both the softwood and hardwood fiber price indices jumped in the second quarter of 2016, reports Wood Resource Quarterly.

Mondi Group to Acquire Russian Corrugated Packaging Producer, Beepack
(Johannesburg, S Africa, Oct. 10, 2016) Mondi Group has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the outstanding share capital of LLC Beepack (“Beepack”) from a private investor for a consideration of RUB2,825 million (EUR 41 million) on a debt-and-cash-free basis. UPM Raflatac to Invest EUR 35 Million in New Coating Line at Wroclaw Label Stock Plant
(Helsinki, Finland, Oct. 11, 2016) UPM Raflatac said that it is investing EUR 35 million to build a new coating line at the Wroclaw, Poland label stock facility.
The new coating line, together with related reel handling and slitting capacity additions, will enhance the company’s ability to meet the increasing demand for self-adhesive label stock in Europe, UPM said.

Russia to lower tariffs on EU’s paper products after WTO ruling

Gascogne’s sales down 2.9 per cent to Euro 212.8 million in 1H 2016
(France, Oct. 11, 2016) Gascogne’s sales in the first six months of the year totalled Euro 212.8 million, down 2.9% on the first half of 2015, mainly due to the Paper Division.
EBITDA rose by 8%, from Euro 10.8 million to Euro 11.7 million. Consequently, the underlying operating profit increased from Euro 6.4 million to Euro 7 million.

Belgium’s Van Genechten to expand Polish cardboard packaging plant
(Brussels, Oct. 10, 2016) To increase output capacity Belgian cardboard packaging producer Van Genechten has unveiled plans to raise the output capacity of its factory in Chełmek, in Poland’s southern part.
In the past 18 months, the manufacturer invested about €7 million at its plant, and aims to further boost its output in Chełmek, reports local news site Rynekpapierniczy.pl.

Praxair signs oxygen supply agreement with Fibria for expansion project in Três Lagoas

WestRock to Invest $48 Million to Consolidate and Expand Sioux City Box Plants
(USA, Oct. 7, 2016) WestRock on Thursday announced a $48 million expansion of its corrugated box operations in Sioux City, Iowa.
